The Secretary of State for Youth and Employment, Osvaldo Petersburgo, is urging Mozambicans to debate the problems that young people face, but also to consider what they can do “to drive change”.
The Government is always seeking better ways to communicate with young people to inspire the change and transformation that will allow this social layer to be proactive and generate solutions to their own challenges, Petersburgo said.
The Secretary of State was speaking after a visit this Tuesday to the STV studios which will host, the third edition of MOZEFO Young Leaders from next Monday to Friday next week.
Petersburgo was assessing preparations for the event, which will take place under the motto “Let’s Lead the Transformation – The Future is Us”, which aims to stimulate youth to assume the commitment to lead the transformation of the parents.
“We must discuss the main problems that young people experience, but we also need to discuss the best that young people can do. We believe that with this platform [MOZEFO Young Leaders] will show the good things that young people can do, and the expectation is that young people will participate actively through social networks and other platforms and can showcase what they do best,” Petersburgo said.
“We came here to witness the preparations of MOZEFO Young Leaders. In Mozambique, youth is the majority of the population. In fact, when there is a private sector initiative, the Government cares and approaches, especially in this new way of dialoguing with young people – informing young people, leading young people towards opportunities which may later generate new jobs and life skills knowledge.”
In his address, Petersburg said that the Secretariat of State for Youth and Employment was “preparing a range of activities within the framework of Youth Week. For this reason, we partnered with MOZEFO Young Leaders, as a way of reaching more young people”.
The Secretary of State for Youth and Employment said that “one of the advantages of this new way of doing MOZEFO Young Leaders [via digital platforms]is that young administrators from various parts of Mozambique will be able to participate, and they know the reality of what is actually happening in the districts. They can bring their experiences”.
“Not only administrators, but also other young people in the districts who can bring their experiences. Local participation brings to the nation what is happening in different parts of the country,” he concluded.
