The Government will have to find at least US$33 million, from its own funds and cooperation partners, to implement the new national Postal Address Code (CEP).
This is the figure to be found in a feasibility study carried out by the National Institute of Communications of Mozambique (INCM), according to the respective director-general, Massingue Apala, who was speaking yesterday in Manhiça, Maputo province, at the inauguration of the postal address pilot project there.
Apala said that six cities in Mozambique would be covered by the new postal address code system over the next five years.
“The new CEP aims, among other aspects, to respond to the country’s urban expansion and the digitalization of the economy,” said Massingue Apala.
The implementation of the postal address pilot project in Manhiça covers 1,500 homes and other establishments, in addition to more than 1,200 streets.
The next city to be covered is Chimoio, where preparatory work in coordination with the local municipal authorities is already underway. Over the next five years, the CEP will be implemented in Matola, Beira, Quelimane, Nampula and Nacala cities.
After completing the process in the six cities, the operation will proceed to the rest of the country.
Among the elements of the new address system is the clear definition of the name of public roads and the numbering of homes.
