President Filipe Nyusi, currently making working visits in and around Maputo, has said that clean cities are the most attractive from a tourism point of view.
President Nyusi was speaking yesterday at a meeting with city council workers as part of his two-day visit to Maputo city province.
The head of state was answering a point made by a municipal Maputo official who suggested a “culture of urban hygiene” as the best way to keep the capital clean.
The president, agreed, stressing that a clean city brings benefits beyond the health of its residents.
Another question raised related to improvements in public transport.
The head of state said that in addition to seeking new platforms, the municipal council should improve the management of existing facilities.
Maputo Municipal Council has about three thousand employees, of whom about a thousand are women.
Maputo city is, in itself, one of Mozambique’s eleven provinces and is divided into seven districts: KaMpfumo, Nlhamankulu (or Chamanculo), KaMaxaquene (or Maxaquene), KaMavota (or Mavota), KaMubukwana (or Mubukwane), KaTembe (or Catembe), KaNyaka (or Inhaca). Maputo province is a different territory.
