The Business Confederation of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CE-CPLP) today condemned the attack on the president of the Confederation of Economic Associations in Mozambique, Agostinho Vuma, which took place last Saturday in Maputo.
“[The CE-CPLP] vehemently repudiates this barbaric and cowardly attack on a citizen, businessman and family man,” a press release distributed to the media reads.
The CPLP confederation calls on the Mozambican police and judicial authorities to provide “a quick clarification and just punishment for all involved”, adding that the attack “endangers all efforts to build a society of peace, harmony, dialogue and tolerance” in Mozambique.
“We understand that this was not an anonymous and isolated action, but a premeditated act,” the CE-CPLP note reads.
Agostinho Vuma was ambushed by two armed persons in his office building, located near ‘Baixa, on Avenida Josina Machel at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
He was hit by two bullets, but rescued almost immediately, a police source said, and is currently being treated in a hospital in the Mozambican capital.
The 44-year-old businessman was elected president of CTA in May 2017. He is a Frelimo deputy, and has represented his Gaza constituency in the south of the country since 2015.
