Mozambique: 100,550 school books lost to truck accident

Mozambique on Sunday (July 12) announced a further 22 coronavirus infections, bringing the cumulative total to 1,157 cases, with nine deaths and 364 fully recovered.
“The cases notified this Sunday are all Mozambican nationals and are the result of a batch of 857 samples tested [from Saturday to Sunday] in public and private laboratories in the country,” the statement distributed yesterday by the Mozambican Ministry of Health reads. Of the 22 new cases, seven are in Cabo Delgado province, seven in Tete, one in Inhambane, five in Maputo province and two in Maputo city.
“In the last 24 hours, 15 more people fully recovered from Covid-19,” bringing the cumulative number of recovered cases to 364, the note adds. “Of the new recoveries, 10 are from Nampula and five from Maputo province.”
A total of five coronavirus patients are hospitalised.

The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 565,000 lives and infected more than 12.74 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
In Africa, there are 12,988 confirmed deaths and about 578,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the most recent statistics on the continent’s pandemic.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
