Mozambique: Police arrest member of CAD, the first political force supporting Mondlane, for ...
President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi is today embarking on a two-day visit to Maputo, with the Ka-Nhaca district [Inhaca] one of his stops.
Residents of the island are looking to the president’s visit as a window of opportunity for the resolution of a number of their problems.
Inhaca Island is for example facing the lack of reliable transport for passengers and cargo, resulting in low tourism activity and a high cost of living. The island’s only ferry has just returned to service after a four-month break.
“We ask the president to help with the ferry, and also the school. These are the things we worry about most. We suffer a lot,” residents complain.
In addition to the public meeting in Ka-Nhaca, the president will also visit a fish market.
Maputo city is, in itself, one of Mozambique’s eleven provinces and is divided into seven districts: KaMpfumo, Nlhamankulu (or Chamanculo), KaMaxaquene (or Maxaquene), KaMavota (or Mavota), KaMubukwana (or Mubukwane), KaTembe (or Catembe), KaNyaka (or Inhaca). Maputo province is a different territory.
