Violence carried out by terrorists in some districts of Cabo Delgado province remains a concern, and dominated the President of the Republic’s speech at the inauguration of Henriques Carlos Xavier Cossa as Judge Counsellor of the Supreme Court yesterday (Wednesday 08).
Filipe Nyusi said that there is great expectation regarding the exemplary trial and accountability of terrorists who have been neutralised.
“We have to continue to fight violence together, holding criminally accountable the terrorists who are neutralised and sent to court. Our expectation is that for the accountability of those who carry out such acts, the judiciary must be swift and exemplary in its actions, so that the feeling of impunity does not prevail,” the president said. “The feeling we want to see prevail is that, in Mozambique, criminals are exemplarily punished.”
In his speech, Nyusi also asked for the attention of all Mozambicans as to the lack of information that has existed about the armed violence that has plagued Cabo Delgado since October 5, 2017.
“We must also be on the lookout for those who seek in other ways to accredit the macabre attitudes of terrorists, using disinformation to manipulate the populations that suffer violence in a manipulated way,” President Nyusi said.
In all these matters, the highest magistrate expects the exemplary contribution of Henriques Carlos Xavier Cossa, who becomes to Judge Counsellor of the Supreme Court.
“We hope that you will do your best in the new functions, raising the prestige of the body and the judiciary,” Nyusi said.
A member of the judicial magistracy since 1992, Henriques Carlos Xavier Cossa was, until his appointment, President Judge of the Judicial Court of the City of Maputo.
