From Monday to Tuesday (July 7), Mozambique recorded 28 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of people testing positive for the virus to 1,040, a statement from the Ministry of Health issued yesterday reads.
The new cases were in a batch of 1,104 samples collected during active surveillance in health units and the tracking of positive case contacts. Tests were performed in public and private sector laboratories.
As to the distribution of the new cases by province, eight are from Nampula, 15 from Zambézia, one from Maputo province and four from Maputo city.
“All the cases reported today are individuals of Mozambican nationality and are in isolation at home,” says the document, going on to say that the process of mapping contacts is already underway.
MISAU also reports three more individuals fully recovered from the disease, all of Mozambican nationality and residing in the city of Maputo. These bring the country recovered total to 280.
Mozambique currently therefore has 750 active cases, with eight deaths from the disease and two from other causes.
Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces continue to record the highest number of active cases, with 297 and 153 cases respectively, followed by Maputo city with 99, and Maputo province with 76.
The remaining seven provinces have less than 30 registered cases between them.
Of the total number of diagnosed cases in the country, 958 are local transmissions and 82 are imported.
National health authorities continue to favour staying at home as the main measures in controlling the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus, along with the taking of physical exercise, the consumption of at least two litres of water a day, and a balanced diet, among other recommendations.
MISAU also recommends the wearing of masks when outside the house or in crowded places, and advises against the consumption of alcohol and tobacco.
