Mozambique’s Ministry of Health (MISAU) has announced the suspension of daily press conferences on the evolution of the new coronavirus in the country.
Head of the communications Nelson Belarmino said that MISAU would hold press conferences on Mondays and Thursdays to present the weekly balance and clarify specific aspects, and otherwise only issue press releases to update figures.
The institution suspended physical press conferences in favour of Zoom sessions almost two months ago, saying that, with journalists on the “front line” in a scenario of increasing case numbers, daily meetings might constitute a fertile environment for the spread of disease.
MISAU has been giving daily press conferences since March 21st. Yesterday’s briefing reported the occurrence of another death from Covid-19, and the diagnosis of 24 more positive cases.
