More than 90 health workers in Mozambique infected with COVID-19

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said Sunday that 91 health workers, including doctors and nurses, have been infected with the novel coronavirus in his country.

The president revealed the figure in his televised announcement to extend the state of emergency for the third time, as part of the government’s effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Nyusi said the pandemic situation in his country is still worrisome, and the month of June is extremely striking.

“This month we had a record of coronavirus cases covering mostly young people and adults,” said Nyusi.

The chart shows that the country is moving into a phase of community transmission, but the trend can still be reversed if people are united and self-disciplined in observing preventive measures, he said.

Since the first COVID-19 case was reported on March 22, the country has registered a total of 883 cases with six deaths and 229 recoveries.
