A total of 1,007 Mozambican companies have asked the National Social Security Institute (INSS) to waive fines and interest charges in the context of Covid-19 impact relief, the minister of Labour and Social Security has said.
Margarida Talapa told the daily ‘Notícias’ that the INSS had granted 366 requests for waivers of fines and interest on arrears, with other companies’ requests still under review.
The requests come in the context of measures set up by the government to deal with the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Talapa said.
“We hope that these measures [for the relief of the impact of Covid-19] are disseminated to other entrepreneurs, because we want to contribute to the sustainability of companies and their businesses,” the minister said.
Still in the context of mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Margaria Talapa alluded to the opening of a 600 million meticais (€7.59 million) INSS credit line for small and medium-sized companies.
Another credit line for companies, worth 1 billion meticais (€12.6 million euros) had already been created by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, she noted.
“These are open-ended measures to try to guarantee the sustainability of companies and businesses. Our biggest concern is related to citizens who are losing their jobs,” she added.
Mozambique has registered a total of 453 Covid-19 cases, with two deaths.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed nearly 408,000 lives and infected more than 7.1 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a summary from the French AFP press agency.
