Angola’s Folha 8 newspaper headlined breaking news on Thursday May 26 of the rumoured resignation of Vice President Manuel Vicente.
According to a source within the presidency quoted by the newspaper, the second man in the Angolan state reportedly sent a letter “of an irrevocable character” to President José Eduardo dos Santos, declaring his “firm decision not to compete in the party’s [MPLA] list in the 2017 elections”.
“He could not avoid the palace intrigues. He was easily consumed by the big boss, and when he least expected it, Dos Santos pulled the carpet from under him,” said F8’s source.
There is still no official confirmation from the presidency or Vice President Vicente.
