The Combatants’ Ministry of Mozambique has so far registered more than 97,000 national liberation struggle combatants, Rádio Moçambqiue reporst today.
Speaking to Radio Mozambique’s “Cartas na Mesa” (Cards on the Table] programme on Monday, Minister of Combatants Carlos Silia said that the registration process was now finalised, and only the setting of some demobilised soldiers’ pensions remained to be addressed.
“Ninety-one percent of veterans of the national liberation struggle already have their pensions decided. Six percent of veterans of the national liberation struggle are cases in progress, so they are still not getting paid. Three percent are cases sent back due to irregularities in documentation and evidence confirming that they are combatants of the national liberation struggle. This process of registering and fixing pensions for veteran combatants in the national liberation struggle is currently ending,” he said.
The minister also revealed that around 16,000 families of deceased combatants are receiving survivors’ pensions.
