Mozambique: Riot police officer jailed for armed robbery - Watch
Mozambique Police (PRM) have arrested three individuals in Maputo city on suspicion of running a sex trafficking ring, the corporation spokesman said yesterday.
“A teenager [who was allegedly kidnapped and sexually abused] managed to escape from the house where they were being held captive, and reported the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. We were thus able to detain the suspects,” PRM spokesman Leonel Muchina told the press.
The group consisted of two women and a man, supposedly the leader, and was holding three teenagers captive in a house in the Chamanculo neighbourhood, on the outskirts of the Mozambican capital.
The 35-year-old man is said to have sexually exploited the teenagers, aged 14 to 18, and threatened to kill them if they tried to escape. The two women allegedly involved are accused of seducing the victims with promises of employment.
“My daughter disappeared for a month and came back pregnant,” the mother of one of the teenagers said at the press conference where the police presented the trio.
