In a drive to reduce the volume of imports by around 46%, the government is to invest in training and monitoring agricultural producers, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Olegário dos Anjos Banze has said.
After having visited Inhambane over the weekend, Banze is now in Maputo, appraising himself of the current state of the 2019/20 agrarian campaign, and says that, despite drought and the cyclones that hit parts of the centre and north of the country, the balance of the first season is positive.
Satisfied with what he heard and saw on visits two egg and hay production units in Boane district, Deputy Minister Banze gave his assurances regarding reducing the current volume of imports by around 46%.
One of the Boane egg producers told STV that he can currently supply the national market with 93,340 eggs per day, and that, despite the state of emergency restrictions and the lockdown in neighbouring South Africa, production had not been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
In order to encourage the production of hay in the district of Boane, the government is, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, making an additional two hay processing machines available.
