Mozambique: Islamic leader “abducted” in Palma – Carta

On the first day of the celebration of the month of Ramadan “Mubarak”, the Muslim community in the village of Palma, seat of the district of the same name, Cabo Delgado province, was taken by surprise with the information reporting the abduction of an influential community leader.

This is Sheik Kidume, about 50 years old. The reasons for his abduction, much less the authors, are not known. But ‘Carta’ sources tie his disappearance with the security situation there.(It might be recalled that family members and friends of local community radio journalist Ibraimo Mbaruco have not known his whereabouts since April 7th.

In fact, this is not the first time that Islamic leaders have mysteriously disappeared in Cabo Delgado since the attacks began in October 2017. Earlier this year, police authorities arrested Sheik Muemede Selemane, when he went to the District Command. of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) to ask about the whereabouts of a fellow congregant.

And in the middle of last year, residents of the small village of Runho, in the administrative post of Mucojo, Macomia district, reported the kidnapping of a sheik named Kada Sualeh Chabane, attributing his disappearance to the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces.
