The health sector in Zambézia has screened the 16 crew members of a cargo freighter from the Philippines which docked in Quelimane to unload and reload.
On the ground, it appears that the crew members are effectively observing Covid-19 counter-measures.
According to Dr Ganâncio Muachana, spokesperson for the health sector in Zambézia, all crew members seem to be well, with no reason for alarm in any single case.
“We urged the crew members to stay on board the ship, and, if they want to leave, to observe measures such as wearing masks and gloves, and avoiding contact,” Dr Muachana said, adding that, ideally, as few people as possible should come ashore.
One commendable aspect is that the vessel’s crew seem aware of the danger of the new coronavirus, and have equipped the ship with devices aimed at preventing the spread of the disease, O País reports.
At least 50 people are in home quarantine in Zambézia, while more than 100 suspected cases, who did not show any symptoms of the disease in the regulatory period, have been discharged.
