Mozambique’s National Institute of Social Security (INSS) says it is able to meet its financial obligations even in face of a possible increase in the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country, TVM reports.
But the INSS also pointed out that unemployment benefits are not provided for in the institution’s regulations.
Mozambique’s INSS said that providing assistance to taxpayers who have lost jobs as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic was not among its obligations, and that only financial obligations provided for in the institutional regulations regarding sickness, old age and disability pensions would be fulfilled.
The National Institute of National Security has more than 90,000 pensioners dependent on it, and says it will be able to pay them even if the number of people infected with the new coronavirus increases.
