Mozambique’s Economic Activities Inspectorate (INAE) has withdrawn three types of disinfectants from the market due to the low alcohol content declared on the label, the agency said.
“The alcohol content declared in each of the three products is below that recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO),” said INAE inspector Tomás Timba, quoted by the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM).
According to him, the products were being marketed in some establishments and markets.
INAE called on consumers to purchase disinfectants in establishments licensed for this purpose.
According to the WHO, an effective product for hand disinfection should contain between 60% and 80% alcohol and the effectiveness should be proven according to international standards.
Mozambique lives in a state of emergency throughout the month of April, with entertainment and leisure areas closed, with a ban on all types of events and social groupings.
During the same period, schools are closed and the issuing of visas to enter the country is suspended.
Mozambique has already officially registered 39 cases of Covid-19, with no deaths.
