The tourist activity in Inhambane is increasingly compromised by the coronavirus, with 86 resorts so far saying they have closed their doors. The number may be a little higher, as establishments daily reported new closures, for lack of customers.
Palmira Inácio, interim Director of the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism in Inhambane, said that closures would cost 1,420 workers their jobs, and that, to ensure that they were not permanently put on the streets, the Provincial Directorate was working with employers to devise solutions.
The sector in Inhambane was hoping to earn nine billion this season, but Covid-19 has definitely compromised that target.
And with tourism and culture going hand in hand, artists are finding few to sell their wares to, greatly impacting their activity.
