The number of officially registered cases of infection with the novel coronavirus in Mozambique has risen from 28 to 29, the Ministry of Health announced today.
“Of the 31 tests performed in the last 24 hours, 30 came back negative and one person tested positive. Therefore, the number of people with COVID-19 rises to 29,” said Rosa Marlene, national director of Public Health, at today’s briefing, held at the Ministry of Health in Maputo.
The Ministry of Health says it is currently monitoring 1868 suspected cases.
The new case announced today is a Mozambican citizen, residing in Maputo. It was identified within the framework of the third network of contacts of those infected in Cabo Delgado.
This third network of contacts has already mapped 55 citizens who are in Cabo Delgado, Maputo, Zambézia and Nampula.
Therefore, the country has confirmed 29 cases of covid-19, of which 27 are active and two have recovered. Of these 27 cases, 15 are in Maputo, 12 in Afungi and two in Pemba.
Without a cure for coronavirus, only the immune system of each citizen guarantees a recovery, O Pais reports, adding that the Ministry of Health provides only supportive treatment for diagnosed cases.
So far, 10,655 Mozambicans have been quarantined, of which 1868 are being monitored. In total, 793 suspected cases have been tested so far at the National Institute of Health.
The new case, which is in isolation at home, results from the investigation into the ramifications of a case of infection with the new coronavirus announced on April 2, discovered in Afungi, Cabo Delgado, in the project area for gas exploitation in the North of Mozambique led by the French company Total.
The Mozambican authorities have identified 66 people who had contact with Afungi’s first case, of which 64 were from the infected person’s professional environment, but actions are still underway to identify the contacts of the new cases announced in the past two days.
Only essential works are being carried out in the works of the mega project for gas exploration led by Total in the north of the country, after discovering new cases of infection by the new coronavirus at the site.
