The owner of a commercial establishment and seven customers between 18 and 46 years old are in police custody at the 8th Police Station in Beluluane, Boane district, Maputo province, accused of violating state of emergency regulations.
One of the group owns a commercial establishment selling alcoholic beverages in the Motola-Gare neighbourhood.
He was caught by the police at about 11:00 p.m. on Monday in full exercise of his activities, in breach of the state of emergency that has been in effect since April 1 across the country because of the current threat to public health.
The other seven were detained for drinking alcohol in the same establishment.
All are accused of disobeying the administrative measures adopted by the Council of Ministers within the scope of the state of emergency in effect throughout the country, a crime punishable by up to three months prison.
