The Maputo Private Hospital has clarified to the newspaper @Verdade that it does not carry out tests for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
“Not only does it not have these tests and is not conducting them, it does not even have authorisation and instructions from the relevant authority for this purpose, and therefore could not be making publicly available Covid-19 tests, even free of charge,” the institution says.
Here is the full text of the clarification provided by the representatives of the Maputo Private Hospital.
1. As is your full knowledge, on March 19, 2020, a news article by Mr Adérito Caldeira was published in your newspaper, which accused our client of being part of the range of private institutions that were currently marketing alleged tests to the new viral Covid-19 pandemic.
2. A fact that, in the opinion of the author of that piece of news, was only for the sake of vile purposes, such as defrauding the unsuspecting citizens of the middle and upper class who are in a panic with the spread of the pandemic.
3. In effect, until now, our client not only does not have the aforementioned tests and is not conducting them, it does not even have authorisation and instructions from the relevant authority, for this purpose and, therefore, it could not be making available Covid-19 tests, even free of charge.
4. Furthermore, even if our client had the aforementioned tests and, under the authorisations and instructions of the competent entities, was effectively marketing them, it would not do so in order to defraud anyone, as mentioned in the news. It should be noted that our client is a totally private institution for the provision of health services, and its survival depends solely and exclusively on the return it receives for the provision of its services.
5. Our client does not ignore and does not see any business opportunity in the situation that is currently being experienced in Mozambique due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On the contrary, our client is a partner of the Government and, in national emergencies such as this one, it has collaborated with the Government and provided its support in various ways within its reach.
6. Therefore, the news article published by you and in the terms in which it was published constitutes a gross concealment of the truth in such a way as to affect the good name of our client, a fact that is visible in view of its spread by other newspapers and social networks.
