Matola municipality, in Maputo province, has a centre equipped with clinical equipment and trained medical personnel ready for the reception, treatment and hospitalisation of patients infected with the Covid-19 coronavirus.
The Matola 1 Health Centre [Centro de Saúde da Matola 1], located in the city of the same name, has a first-phase capacity of 14 beds.
According to Iolanda Santos, provincial director of health in Maputo, efforts are under way at provincial level to ensure that all health personnel are trained to deal with the coronavirus, including screening, triage, collection of samples for laboratorial testing and treatment.
She said that, after capacitating the Matola 1 Health Centre, health authorities in Maputo province, together with partners, were now preparing a larger health unit for Covid-19 patients.
