A car was burnt out yesterday afternoon (24) at the Chiango roundabout on the Maputo Ring Road after its driver reportedly lost control and crashing into another vehicle that had stopped on the highway.
The light vehicle, a Volkswagen with the registration number ACK-164 MC, was travelling from Costa do Sol to Marracuene with a 29-year-old man at the wheel.
Travelling at high speed, he was unable to control the car and hit the side of the stationary Nissan Serena, registration number ABZ-574 MC.
Police spokesman Leonel Muchina said that the moving vehicle lost all electrical power after the collision.
“The damage was minimised by onlookers who witnessed the accident and moved the Serena away before the Volkswagen burst into flames,” he said.
The accident caused no injuries to the vehicles’ occupants, and only physical damage to the vehicles involved was registered, the police source said.
