The Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali yesterday expressed his shock and grief at the death of 64 people attempting to cross the Malawi-Mozambique border in a container truck.
“I learned with a heavy heart of the deaths of many en route to Mozambique from Malawi. Ethiopians may also have been among the dead. @mfaethiopia is closely working with the relevant authorities to find out the identities and other details of the deceased. Rest In Peace,” Ethiopian head of government and 2019 Nobel Peace Prize winner Abiy Ahmed wrote on twitter.
The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon, after the Mozambican authorities had established contact with their Ethiopian counterparts.
