The Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique will today and tomorrow hold its first extraordinary session, in order to choose members of the Standing Committee and specialised commissions.
After the session, the new Standing Committee will meet to decide the dates of the first ordinary session, which should take place in the first half of March.
The new members of parliament were sworn in on January 13, after the official announcement of the results of October 15 the general elections.
The Standing Committee, one of parliament’s nine specialised commissions, has 17 members.
As work progresses, the names of the MPs who will be members of the various Assembly of the Republic working groups will also be announced.
Today’s parliament session takes place a week after the presentation of the parliament to the new deputies.
The new legislature will be the ninth since the country’s independence in 1975.
