Mozambique: Abducted businessman released, suspected kidnappers arrested

Mozambican police have arrested five people suspected of kidnapping the owner of a chain of stores in the centre of the country, and seized two vehicles involved in the crime, the corporation announced on Monday.
Four men, two of whom are thought to have actively participated in the kidnapping, and one woman, were arrested on Friday in the province of Manica, central Mozambique, on the same day that the businessman was released.
“Intensive lines of operation were launched, and we managed to detain five people involved in the abduction,” police spokesman Mateus Mindu said in Manica.
“When the kidnappers found themselves trapped, they released the businessman, who is already at home,” he added.
Two of the detainees are Mozambican traders from Chimoio, and own a chain of stores which police suspect are used to launder money from illicit activities.
Two others are the owners of the vehicles used in the crime, while the woman coordinated the group’s communications.
Businessman Ossufo Satar, 44 years old, was kidnapped at about 8:00 pm on the 8th of February just outside his commercial establishment in Rua Cidade de Lichinga, in the centre of Chimoio city.
