Repair works following the rupture of the two water mains carrying water from the Umbeluzi Water Treatment Plant are proceeding at a good pace, according to the Director General of FIPAG, Victor Tuacale, and are expected to be completed soon.
The pipes were ruptured on the 8th of the current month, leaving several families in the Maputo metropolitan area without water. Three days after the start of work, the concreting phase is proceeding smoothly.
Director General Tuacale said that a root-and-branch infrastructure intervention was needed, including the installation of a valve increasing distribution capacity by up to 40%.
While work to normalise the water supply service to the cities of Maputo, Matola and Vila de Boane is ongoing, mains water would be available on alternate days and for certain periods only.
