“Mozambique favourable to investments in the area of renewable energies” – Prime Minister

Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário said on Tuesday that Mozambique offered favourable conditions for private sector investments in the renewable energy sector.

“Energy is an important resource for boosting socio-economic development and raising the population’s standard of living,” the prime minister said during the African business forum, inviting the private sector to explore investment in this area.

The prime minister made it known, on the occasion, that electricity provision was in line with Mozambique’s commitment to the United Nations to provide access to the entire population.

Mozambique’s main objective, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário said, was to reach 70 percent coverage – currently estimated at 34 percent – in the next five years.

The event was organised as part of the 33rd African Union Heads of State and Government Summit in Addis-Ababa.

In parallel with the meeting of African Union leaders, the 24th General Assembly of Africa’s First Ladies also took place in the Ethiopian capital, where the continental organization is headquartered.
