Mozambique: President Chapo sees smooth progress in preparations for 50th Independence celebrations

The Japanese ambassador to Mozambique met President Nyusi Wednesday in Maputo on Wednesday afternoon to say farewell at the end of his tour of duty in Mozambique.
Ambassador Toshio Ikeda used the occasion to expressed Japan’s commitment to continue deepening bilateral cooperation, thereby enhancing Mozambique’s economic development.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Japanese diplomat characterised trade between the two countries as “healthy”, adding that, during the two and a half years of his stay, he had become convinced of the importance of relations between Japan and the African continent, and especially with Mozambique.
Several Japanese companies were operating in Mozambique, Ambassador Ikeda noted, and participating in projects like the Nacala Corridor and the exploitation of natural gas in Area 1,Cabo Delgado, where Japanese company Mitsui has a 20 percent stake.
