The new president of Cabo Verde Airlines (CVA) is Erlendur Svavarsson, succeeding Jens Bjarnason, who has held the position since early 2019, the company said on Wednesday.
The airline said that Erlendur Svavarsson has been appointed as part of the management contract between Loftleidir Icelandic and Cabo Verde Airlines.
Erlendur Svavarsson has been senior vice president of sales and marketing for Loftleidir Icelandic since 2010 and has also worked for Loftleidir Icelandic and other Icelandair companies in various senior roles and as a member of the board of directors since 2003.
He has been a member of the board of directors of CVA since the beginning of 2019 and was involved in the CVA privatisation process which was completed in March 2019.
The new president of CVA has a BA in Economics from the University of Iceland, an MBA from Reykjavik University and an AMP (Advanced Management Program) from Harvard Business School.
In March 2019, the State of Cabo Verde sold 51% of the then TACV for €1.3 million to Lofleidir Cabo Verde, a company 70% owned by Loftleidir Icelandic EHF and 30% by Icelandic entrepreneurs with experience in the aviation sector.
It was also planned to sell 10% of the company to workers and emigrants and the remaining 39% to other investors in a privatisation process that the government plans to complete in the first months of the year.
After privatisation, the company left the domestic air links to focus on international connections and the hub on the island of Sal.
Air connections between islands are now provided only by Binter, which has changed its name to Transportes Interilhas de Cabo Verde (TICV).
Last year, CVA resumed domestic inter-island flights through a partnership with the Portuguese Lease-Fly and Newtour, thus ensuring connectivity to the hub on the island of Sal, from where CVA operates most international flights.
The current CVA fleet consists of Boeing 757-200, guaranteeing connections from the archipelago to Dakar, Lisbon, Paris, Milan, Rome, Boston, Fortaleza, Recife, Porto Alegre, Salvador, Lagos and Washington.
