Portugal’s Efacec hired to build a solar plant in Mozambique

Portuguese company Efacec has been hired by Mozambican power company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) and Neoen, a French renewables company, to build and operate a solar plant, Central Solar Fotovoltaica de Metoro, in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, the Portuguese company said in a statement released on Wednesday.
The statement also said the plant in Metoro will be the solar plant in Mozambique, with a production capacity of 68-gigawatt hours per year and will enter into operation at the end of 2020.
The project awarded to Efacec, which has operated in Mozambique for over 20 years, was drawn up by Neoen in partnership with EDM and aims to contribute to Mozambique’s diversification of energy sources and provide access to electricity by 100% of the Mozambican population by 2030.
“The contract includes the supply of a complete solution, including the high voltage interconnection to the EDM substation and guarantees related to the operation of solar energy, as well as a long-term contract for the operation and maintenance of the plant,” said the statement.
Efacec develops solutions for solar systems, including for individual consumption, hybrid systems and large-scale photovoltaic installations. It has approximately 300 megawatts of installed throughout the world and is present in markets such as Europe, the United States of America, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
