One hundred and twenty people to find permanent jobs in EN6 tolls

At least 120 people will have a permanent job in tolling stations which will start operating along National Road Number Six (EN6) on January 1 next year.
The EN6 connects the port city of Beira with the border village of Machipanda in Sofala and Manica provinces, and from there to southern African hinterland countries such as Zimbabwe.

A public tender to provide staff for the tolls was launched by the Road Fund in September. Those chosen are being trained at the Vanduzi tolls in Manica, and at Dondo and Nhamatanda in Sofala in the centre of Mozambique.
According to Radio Mozambique, the resident coordinator of the EN6 rehabilitation and upgrading project, Mário Rafael, says tolls will operate 24 hours in shifts, and will employ toll personnel, supervisors, treasurers and technicians, now in training.

Mário Rafael says that Mozambique has witnessed large investments in the road infrastructure, but it is now urgent to start reimbursing the founders, and maintain the roads under the user-pays principle.
In addition to the three toll stations, other support infrastructure built along the 287 kilometers of the EN6 Machipanda-Beira section includes six police checkpoints, an equal number of road maintenance yards and three docks.

The EN6, together with the Maputo-KaTembe bridge and the Maputo Ring Road and its connecting roads and related infrastructure, is now managed by the Mozambican Road Network Society (REVIMO), a private institution created in September 2018.

The Council of Ministers, at its last meeting of the year, authorised REVIMO to manage these infrastructures within the framework of a public-private partnership.
“With a view to constructing, conserving and operating under tolls, roads and bridges and their related infrastructures, built or to be built, REVIMO shall manage the infrastructures for 20 years from the date of signature of the contract, that has not yet been defined,” the minutes of the cabinet meeting read.
