The National Hydrocarbon Company and its Indonesian partner will sink the first oil and gas exploration well in Buzi district, Sofala province, later this year, the CEO of the National Petroleum Institute (INP) announced on Thursday.
Just days before the end of the year, the INP has highlighted the strides made in liquefied natural gas projects, particularly in Area 1 of the Rovuma basin in Cabo Delgado.
Concerning the forensic audit of operating costs declared by oil companies operating in Areas 1 and 4 of the Rovuma basin and suspected of tax evasion, Chairman of the INP’s Board of Directors Carlos Zacarias told the press in Maputo on Thursday that the process had already been completed.
After the discovery of huge hydrocarbon reserves in northern Mozambique, Carlos Zacarias noted that the Buzi district in central Sofala was the next focus of attention – following an abortive previous attempt there in the 1960s.
Mozambique’s sixth international hydrocarbon prospecting and research licencing round is scheduled for the first half of next year.
With the start of production of liquefied natural gas scheduled for 2022 – in the Coral South project, whose floating LNG plant 60% complete – the oil sector regulator is hastening to advocate the rational use of natural resources.
