Mozambique: INGC needs 900 million meticais for contingency plan

The National Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) needs 900 million meticais to reach the 2.1 billion meticais needed to implement its 2019/2020 contingency plan.
The information was provided by INGC Director-General Augusta Maíta in Maputo today, Thursday, at a meeting with the private sector and civil society aimed at mobilising resources to cope with the present rainy season.
Augusta Maíta said the expectation was that financial and material resources would be available to respond to the challenges of the rainy season in Mozambique.
The government has approved a two billion meticais contingency plan for the 2019-2020 rainy season, which starts in October.
The contingency plan foresees that as many as 150 thousand people could be affected by natural disasters, and food needs are estimated at 4,500 tons.
In the education sector, 15,000 classrooms in 3,700 schools located in risk zones in Gaza and Inhambane provinces could be affected by the rainy season.
