Road Fund joins Infrastructure Transparency Initiative CoST

The Mozambican government announced yesterday that the Road Fund had joined the CoST infrastructure transparency initiative. Deputy Minister of Public Works Victor Tauacala argues that membership will strengthen the transparency and accountability mechanisms of the public works sector.

At a time when corruption remains alarming high, notably in the public works sector, the Government through the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources announced on Monday the Road Fund’s membership of the CSst initiative

Among it other objectives the programme aims to contribute to the elimination of corruption and mismanagement and increased transparency through internationally accepted good practices.

The President of the Road Fund’s Board of Directors, Angelo Macuácua, says that the infrastructure transparency initiative will contribute to improving the quality of works funded by the institution and reducing risks.

Macuácua also announced that the infrastructure sector investment portfolio for the next year would be in the order of 17 billion meticais, while recognizing that that amount would be insufficient to address current challenges.

Monday’s event was attended by cooperation partners from the Ministry of Public Works, senior CoST leaders, road fund officials and other guests.
