The year 2020 and the new government cycle kick off with eight new diplomats in Mozambique, from whom President Filipe Nyusi received credential letters yesterday.
Among them are two representatives of Lusophone countries.
President Nyusi received letters of credentials from José João Manuel, Angola’s new ambassador, who previously served in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Jorge Eduardo St’Aubyn de Figueiredo, the new ambassador of Cape Verde, previously based in Luanda.
Also yesterday, David Izzo presented his credentials as France’s new ambassador, previously in El Salvador, at a time when the European Union (EU) country is boosting economic interest in the country, with oil major Total taking over the lead in Natural Gas Area 1 in the north of the country.
Oliver Bürki will be the new ambassador of Switzerland, replacing Mirko Manzoni, who led the contact group in the peace talks between the Mozambican government and the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo) that resulted in the peace agreement of 6 August this year.
Bürki was previously director of Swiss cooperation with the South Caucasus in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Letters of credential were also presented by Mohamed Meziane (Algeria), Ibrahin Awawdeh (Jordan), Gita Kamath (Australia) and Kabalan Frangieh (Lebanon).
