A total of 3,723 foreign nationals have been found working irregularly in Mozambique since 2015 and were consequently forced to stop working, the government announced on Saturday.
“It is important to do business with respect for the legal framework,” Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security (Mitess), Vitória Diogo, said.
The minister said there were “rules and quotas” defined by law for companies facing “shortages of qualified and specialised technicians in some labour areas”.
The figures released on Saturday were analysed in Maputo on Friday during a labour law seminar for British companies in Mozambique.
Mozambique now has a computerised systems linking migration services, Social Security and the company workforce listings, which simplifies procedures, including the detection of irregularities, the Minister of Labour concluded.
