A nine-year- old boy was found dead this Sunday in a garbage dump in a Quelimane market.
The body was already in an advanced state of decomposition, and lacking genitals, eyes, heart and skull.
Witnesses say it is the body of a child who disappeared last Thursday, November 7, and believe that his macabre murder was carried out in an abandoned house close to the local market dump.
Authorities confirm the first part of that narrative, identifying the body as belonging to a boy who disappeared on Thursday, November 7, in the Acordos de Lusaka neighbourhood, outskirts of Quelimane city.
The minor reportedly went missing after stealing property from his grandfather’s house with two other boys.
The boy’s disappearance created great unrest, with demonstrations throughout the week outside the Second Police Station, where two minors, friends of the deceased, were being held.
As our reporter left, protective police were still on site. Provincial command confirms the arrest of the presumed progenitor of the crime, with a statement from police expected today.
