The League of Mozambican Non-Governmental Organisations (JOINT) said today that, despite some irregularities, the general elections of 15 October were orderly and peaceful, and there should be no doubt as to the victory of Frelimo and its candidate Filipe Nyusi, O Pais reports.
“The real impact of the volume of irregularities is lessened somewhat by the distance between the results achieved by the contenders,” Guilherme Mbilana explained. “The margin is so large.”
In its reading of the electoral process, JOINT makes a number of recommendations, with the main one reserved for the Constitutional Council, which it advises to be “more pedagogical” in its rulings.
The JOINT report on Mozambique’s October 15 elections comes after other civil society groups have presented reports with various differing conclusions.
