Mozambique today began to draw up an integrated plan for nuclear safety in the country. The idea behind the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy initiative is to ensure that nuclear energy is not used to promote war.
Mozambique uses nuclear energy to perform operations such as X-ray radiography, and in radiotherapy, agriculture and some other sectors.
The process is headed by the National Atomic Energy Agency in response to International Atomic Energy Agency requirements for Mozambique to join one of the world’s most important international nuclear safety protocols.
