Mozambican Airlines resumes flights to Portugal in March 2020

From March 2020, the Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) airline will resume its connection between Maputo and Lisbon with three weekly flights, which will be carried out in partnership with the Hi Fly airline. The announcement was made on Monday in Lisbon, Portugal, by the managing director of the carrier.

João Carlos Pó Jorge, quoted by Mozambique’s AIM news agency, said the company had decided to resume its connection to the Portuguese capital to “satisfy strong demand from customers, including the Mozambican diaspora in Portugal, who had long awaited our direct flights, which is confirmed by market research.”

This LAM announcement comes after the airline overcame the problems that led to its ban on flying in EU airspace since 2011 due to “safety deficiencies.”

The managing general of the Mozambican airline said the flights would be operated by a 267-seat Airbus A340-300 aircraft, 213 in economy class, 42 in premium economy and 12 in executive.

The airline will face competition from carriers such as TAP-Air Portugal, TAAG Angola and Qatar Airways.

Hi Fly is a Portuguese airline specialising in the wet lease of aircraft, where the lessor provides the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance, with the lessee paying for the number of hours operated.
