Mozambique’s National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC) will introduce, on Tuesday, October 1st, an SMS alert service to notify citizens that their Identity Cards (BI) are ready for collection at the DIC posts of issuance.
The news was announced on Friday by DNIC spokesman Alberto Sumbane, at a press conference about the institution’s strategies to boost ID collection given that usually many uncollected ID cards pile up in the several Civil Identification Services for long period of time.
Sumbane pointed out that this new SMS alert service will not only reduce the accumulation of ID cards in DIC boxes, it will also prevent people from going to DIC counters without the certainty that they will find their document ready.

“The platform has been tested and we determined that it is effective in achieving the goals set, so some citizens have already received the SMS and have gone to the DIC posts to collect their documents,” explained Sumbane, quoted by “Notícias.”
He admitted it was difficult to assume that the model could work at 100 percent as some citizens provided wrong contacts.
“Unfortunately, there are people who provide incorrect numbers, and when we need them to correct some data we are unable to contact them,” he said, calling on citizens to avoid such situations.
