President of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi has condemned the acts of xenophobic violence committed by some South Africans against foreigners working there.
The president was speaking from Alto Mulocue district in Zambezia province, central Mozambique, after a campaign rally in the district’s village headquarters.
“As soon as we became aware of this occurrence, as a government, we set in motion all support and assistance mechanisms for Mozambicans in South Africa while internally activating the National Disaster Management Institute to work on welcoming home those of our compatriots who wish to return to the country,” President Nyusi said.
“We vehemently condemn these xenophobic acts and call on the South African government to take steps to prevent these acts from becoming practice,” the president reiterated.
