The military forces together with Sudanese police have nabbed an arms smuggler who gathered a whole arsenal of illegal heavy weapons and ammo.
The anti-crime operation was held in the outskirts of Port Sudan, the city on the north-east of the country, on Saturday morning and resulted in one arrest. Besides that, the officers recovered various weapons, including Kalashnikov automatic rifles, LMGs and grenade launchers.
The arsenal — which, according to the smuggler’s testimony, was due to be smuggled into Mocimboa da Praia mosque in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado region — also included radical religion-based books.
Extremist groups have recently intensified their activities against Christians from the small Macon ethnic group in northern parts of Mozambique. According to the reports, this was due to the elections scheduled to be held in the coming days.
