The European Union delegation in Mozambique is organizing the country’s first EU Week, to take place at the Museum of Fisheries in Maputo, from 2 to 6 December 2015.
EU Week is a public event combining discussions, information sessions, exhibitions and recreational and sporting activities. The week’s main aim is to inform the general public about the EU delegation’s activities in the country and increase interest in EU policies and projects in Mozambique.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday at the Museum of Fisheries, with the European Union delegation and representatives of the government participating in an open information session from 10.00am to 12.00am.
This information session will have a general presentation of the impending Economic Partnership Agreements between the EU and SADC countries, covering the reasons they were negotiated, the main elements of the agreements and the timeline for their signature and ratification.
A question and answer session will follow, with a panel made up of the EU Ambassador in Mozambique, Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and a representative of the Mozambican tax authorities.
Debates and information sessions will take place throughout the week, with highlights like the “Mozambican Democracy Today: Challenges and Opportunities” debate, “Climate Change with the Youth Parliament” and a debate on early marriage.
In the afternoons and evenings there will be dance performances, film screenings, and, on Friday, a concert by the Sigauque Project.
On Saturday, the Museum of Fisheries will host a Gastronomic Fair with food from various European countries and Mozambique, with activities for children also on offer.
The week ends on Sunday with sporting activities in the Praia do Triunfo (Marginal). All events are open to the general public.
