Mozambique defeats Cape Verde, qualifies for quarter-finals @ FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2019 in Dakar, Senegal

The national senior women’s basketball team yesterday became the first team to qualify for the Afrobasket 2019 quarter-finals, beating Cape Verde 60-51 in Match Day Two of Group D.
Mozambique finishes the first phase in first place, while Cape Verde is in second place and will dispute access to the “quarters”.
Mozambique’s senior women’s basketball team “untied the knot” against Cape Verde, which, at some points in the game, closed the gap to six or seven points.
As in the first game, Spaniard Julian Martinez has again bet on rookie Delma Zita in the top five, in addition to Tamara Seda and Leia “Tanucha” Dongue and Ingvild Mucauro and Anabela Adriano Cossa.
Mozambique finished a low-scoring first quarter with a 10-3 lead. A more balanced second quarter brought Cape Verde better luck, improving their score by 18 points against Mozambique’s 17, who nevertheless went to the leading by six points, 27-21.
The third quarter was again controlled by the national team, which kept the Cape Verdean attack to only eight points, ten fewer than in the second. Mozambique scored 22 points, firing at the end of the quarter to 20-point 49-29 difference.
Anabela Cossa was Mozambique’s game leaders, scoring 10 points in the 19:29 minute she was on the court, followed by Ingvild Mucauro with nine points in 28:03 minutes.
Tamara Seda dominated the log with 14 rebounds, six offensive and eight defensive.
