“Return peace to Cabo Delgado” says Nyusi

President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi on Thursday hosted the closing ceremony of another basic police training course, urging graduates to defend national sovereignty and ensure public order and tranquility, especially in Cabo Delgado.
“As we know, along with the development and economic growth of a nation there is, of course, a tendency to disrupt efforts for its livelihood and sustainability,” the president said, adding that the country should be prepared to protect its achievements. “On the world stage, technique and science are used to address them, which is why we are banking on the training of this specific intervention force in complex situations,” Nyusi explained.
Most of the Rapid Intervention Unit agents qualifying on the occasion will be sent to Cabo Delgado, where armed attacks have been taking place since October 2017.
“Your mission is to ensure the peace of our people, and to deter all kinds of crime, including those of wrongdoers in the northern districts of Cabo Delgado who cowardly seek to undermine the construction of a brighter future for Mozambican children,” Nyusi said, stressing that the role of the forces included ensuring effective and lasting peace and contributing to the consolidation of multiparty democracy and harmonious coexistence.
