About the event
Shipito the legend of Mapiko By Atanásio Nyussi, Alex Dau and Pedro Jange
Shipito is a documentary film that brings explanations grounded in connoisseurs of Mapiko, a cultural manifestation of the Maconde people of Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique.
A mixture of dissertations combined with images that bring the essence of Mapiko from its genesis to the metamorphoses that took place in this dance, it is clear from the film that Mapiko is more than a dance, is one of the largest cultural representations of Maconde ethnicity. The rituals, the legend and the belief are present in the film that seeks to faithfully portray Mapiko so that we can get to know her better.
Nhenha by André Bahule
Three generations of women who dance Xingomana share their lives and through the songs and dances show the changes women have won in their community. The Mozambican women's movement turned this seduction dance into an affirmation of the strength and potential of women during the struggle for independence in the 1960s and 1970s. Now they struggle for the continuity of the message of this dance in the affirmation that the woman is strong- "Nhenha" in Changana, one of the languages of southern Mozambique.
